For the past ten years, Charleston Legal Access has worked to ensure that affordable, quality legal services are within reach for individuals and families across our community. What began as a vision to close the justice gap has grown into a movement rooted in dignity, advocacy, and hope.
As we celebrated this milestone anniversary, one thing became clear: the need for accessible legal services has never been greater—and neither has our commitment to meeting that need.
A Decade of Impact
Over the last ten years, Charleston Legal Access has helped thousands of individuals navigate life-changing legal challenges, from housing and family law matters to immigration and beyond. Through legal representation, education, and advocacy, CLA has worked to protect what matters most for the people we serve.
This milestone celebration was not only a reflection on where we’ve been, but a powerful reminder of what is possible when a community comes together in support of justice.
Because of supporters like you, we are confident that we will reach our $50,000 anniversary campaign goal to help expand access to legal services in the years ahead. But—that only happens with YOUR HELP.
Looking Toward the Next Decade
During the celebration, Executive Director Shirene Hansotia shared a message of both urgency and hope:
“There are still far too many people facing legal challenges without the help they deserve. But what gives us hope is that we know what to do, and we know what works. When we invest in legal services and support, we protect what matters most — and when we protect what matters most, we strengthen our entire community.”
Keynote speaker Ken Harrell, an attorney and longtime supporter of CLA, challenged guests to imagine an even greater future for legal access in South Carolina: one where affordable, accessible legal services extend beyond the Lowcountry and reach communities across the entire state.
As we look toward the next decade and beyond, our vision remains clear: a future where justice is not determined by income, and where every person has meaningful access to the legal help they need.
